I started my birthday celebrations this weekend by having Tea at The Ritz.

I did it last year when I celebrated my 50th and went with Lola and my four close girlfriends, Nic, Rachel, Maggie and Caroline, whom I met at university and have known since I was 18.

This year I went with Lola, Nic and her daughter Phoebe. Phoebe had never been before and absolutely loved it.
We met in the foyer of The Ritz and had our photos taken by the stairs as we were told last year that we weren't allowed to take them in the tea room. However, this year they didn't seem to mind us taking photos and the waiters even took pictures for us, so we took loads!

The food was as good as ever - exquisite sandwiches, all cut to perfection, delicious hand made scones with clotted cream and jam (my favourite) and incredible cakes. You could also have any kind of tea you wanted. Lola and I had Early Grey.

Our waiter, Nicholas, asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and I told him it was my birthday. When the pianist started playing Happy Birthday, he brought a special birthday cake, and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Several people were celebrating their birthdays and we all had cakes. It was a lovely moment.

After tea we went to the Rivoli Bar where, at £90 a bottle, we drank the most expensive champagne I've ever had, followed by the most expensive cocktails which were called Ritz 100 and had little bits of gold in them. Were they worth it? Absolutely. I enjoyed every sip.

But most of all, I enjoyed spending time with Nic and Phoebe, catching up on each other's news and relaxing together in beautiful surroundings.

Stepping into The Ritz is like stepping into a fairytale. For a while, you enter a different world which is pure magic.

And though The Ritz may be expensive, that feeling is priceless.

Having a Lovely Time

This picture of Calum on a boat to Rottnest Island says it all.

He is simply loving being in Australia.

And I'm loving seeing him so happy.
