Birthday Week
Celebrate Good Times
If there's one thing we do well in our family, it's birthdays. We know how to celebrate them to the full. So Calum's 17th birthday lasted a whole week. It started with a trip to London and ended with a visit to Cambridge with his good friend Chris, whom he's known since he was one! They met at nursery.
Boys' Stuff
Calum and Chris share a love of art, comics - and food! They also like Star Wars, so Chris admired the (very expensive) Star Wars t-shirt I'd bought Calum which he wore to Cambridge. Joe has his eye on it, too, and is hoping that Calum will grow out of it!
Food and Shopping
So it was breakfast at Cafe Nero and a look through the Sunday newspapers, followed by a trip to Forbidden Planet for the boys and shopping in Next for me (I bought a new suit).
After that it was lunch at the very 'posh' (to quote Chris) Pizza Express in Jesus Lane - one of my favourite eateries.
Having filled our faces with pizza (salad for me as I don't have a teenage boy's metabolism!) it was time for some culture.
Kettle's Yard
We walked up the hill to visit to the house at Kettle's Yard - an amazing and unique place, boasting an eclectic and very personal collection of art. I loved the fact that you had to ring the doorbell to be let in. It had a very calm atmosphere which made you want to linger and beautiful light. You were allowed to sit in the chairs and read the books, but not touch any of the art!
We all had a fantastic time and Calum said it was the perfect end to a perfect birthday. I'm already planning mine in November!
